First day of Stress
For every group the first day of filming is almost always the most stressful, we made it work however we had a couple of challenges on the first day. Elena and Mary agreed to meet at 6:30 pm on March 11th. Mary coronated Emma who played Yaga. Since Emma was working that day until 5:30 Mary went to pick her up. Once back at the house Mary changed into her costume then put on her makeup before helping Emma pick out the best clothes for playing Yaga. Emma had brought over a couple of options for her costume, that we couldn’t decide on over the phone. By the time Emma’s costume had been decided and she had changed, Elena had arrived. After Elena had arrived, Mary had gotten out the props they would need that were scattered around her room whilst Elena took the props out of their bag. Once all props were established, we took them in to the living room and started to arrange the props on the coffee table. Elena had gotten to the house just in time because the sun was just starting to set. Which would be perfect for the scenes, however in pervious blogs we noted that the time we would be filming would be around sunset.
A rough estimation of time which we did for a purpose, of only to give us that starting time. Since typically vampires only are out at night, we could not just film at any time of the day. When we got everything in position, the first shot we filmed took a while to get right because if Mary had let out a breath at the wrong time then the candle would go out right after she had just lit it. This along with the next shot we filmed would be argued as we were dealing with fire up close. So we had to take necessary precautions regarding fire safety. Once we had filmed these shots we realized that we should film the shots with Yaga first before Emma would have to leave. Since Yaga doesn't speak we had to take some time to fully understand how Yaga would communicate with Aurelia. Once we had that down we began to film with Emma as Yaga. When we filmed, we had to rearrange how we would like to set up the shot to not get the glare of any last light from the window. As we filmed the accent Mary had to keep up changed from time to time so we would have to reshoot to get the accent right. In the end we were able to get the shots we needed with Emma, before she left we needed her help to film the last scene where Elena and Mary are dancing on a boat, with a pan down from the sky to a pair of cups sitting on a gear box.
After this Emma went home, Elena and Mary had to film two more scenes. One where Elena had to go outside while Mary was inside putting down a candle. Then, Elena and Mary had to go outside Elena had to sit on the ground to get a shot of only Mary’s shoes while running. Which was the last scene we filmed.
