Title Research: The Addams Family

 1.What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? 

The titles displayed in the opening sequence were “Paramount Pictures Presents”, produced by, directed by(who’s film), then it goes straight into actors names the larger well known actors being first then it displays the Film Title, followed by more actors names then casting by, Co-produced, costume designer, music by, edited by production designed by, direction of photography, executive producer, Based on characters created by, written by, produced by, ending with  directed by.  


2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? 

The opening scene is carolers which is in contrast to the entire movie. There was a pan across all the carolers then the camera moved up showing the dark eerie doorway of the Addams family’s home. Then shows the entire family standing around a cauldron. The rest of the opening sequence however is a thick fog that had fallen out of the cauldron.  


3. What connotations do these images carry? 

The connotations of the very first thing we see in the movie being the carolers provide a glimpse of how much the family really contrasts from the normal population. Having this be at a time of celebration with festive colours and the carolers dressed the those colours then creeping up the doorway to the family dressed in all black. Differs the family from society immediately casting them as out of the box.  

 
4. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? 

While the Addam’s family can fit into many different genres however when researched the main genre was considered to be horror even winning best horror film of the year. The elements that most establish it as one are the violent quirks of the family and the fog placed in the opening sequence. 


5. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? 

The target audience of the film would be audiences over the age of 13 with a PG-13 rating. The film can be enjoyed by all ages do to the  humor the younger age groups would not understand, but is understood and entertaining for adults.  


6. How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles,  
transitions and editing techniques. 

 Technology in the Addam’s family is used not only to establish the differences of the family from society with panning and establishing shot’s however the opening sequence in heavily edited. The panning shot is over the group of carolers then moves up into an establishing shot into the family. As for the editing it is mainly in how the text is typed into the screen. The fonts are specifically chosen as what fits with the aesthetic of the film.

     We will need a few different sets of props per scene. For the first scene, in order to decorate the space, we will need Elena’s fake skull, black candles, candle holders, old books, a chess set , a small bust, and other antique-like objects. This style of props will work best for a house of vampires that have been collecting antiques for hundreds of years. For the second scene we will need a fake knife, fake blood, a rose,  and a ring. It is important that the ring is gold and the knife is silver because silver burns vampires. For the third scene we will use an old chalice and Sophies ya cht. This old chalice will be used to hold “ vampire killers’ blood” as Mara and Aurelia waltz on the yachts deck.        For Aurelias costume, Sophie will wear a black skirt, cream button down, and a long, black vest.      When we sent our short film to Ariel, she thought the concept of vampires in love is not a new one, but that we added a unique twist to the idea that kept me engaged for the two minutes . Ariel’s opinion not only meant a lot to Elena and Mary because s he was critiquing and giving feedback on our film. But because she is our friend. We wanted her too genuinely like it. A fter watching the film, she had a list of pros and cons. Things she thought we did well and some things we could improve upon. The pros were that she thought we had good angles, nice lighting, our costumes and the drama. The con was the audio. She said that the angles we chose to use for each of our shots fit. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?   Moths, old painting with ornate frames, old photographs, a red ring, a decorative tea kettle and cup set, desks with calligraphy pens and blueprint like paper, a desk of a doctor, and an old Victorian-like house. An interesting image that is shown appeared when a female actresses name came up and a blue butter fly was shown instead of a moth.
