Costume, Lighting, and Acting
Costumes were a major part of every characters look. We will start with Jack's costume, since the backup singer is from Radio Star’s time period, the 1950’s. The backup singer had to match with the way Radio dresses. Men’s clothing from this time me period is pretty simple to emulate in modern clothing. Jack wore a suit that he had for Model UN. The suit was black and he wore a white button down with a blue tie. As for his acting Jack did a very good job at following the instructions we gave him to follow. He was very patient as Elena and Mary tried to figure out how to get the shot that we wanted. However while we were filming the sound booth scene the way he lip sang… He wasn’t actually lip singing he was really singing. This caught Mary off guard which on the first take caused Mary to fall over laughing. This was not the most productive thing but it had to be done. As for Mary’s acting she did fairly well, other than fact that she can’t really control her laughter whilst filming. For Mary’s costume,, Radio Star we wanted to go with androgynous from the 1950’s. Which we did convey with pleated black pants, a tweed coat, button down coat with a tie. Not to mention the beloved drill shoes that thankfully were not scuffed. The color palette for Radio star we tried to keep it very neutral. Now onto Video, for Video we wanted to keep it as similar to the music video as possible mainly with the color palette. When trying to find a top Elena tried to find something that was blue or pink, they couldn’t so they decided to go with a light and medium green mesh shirt. As for the bottoms they decided to go with a black skirt. Elena’s acting was very good, they were on point with capturing the essence of Video Star. For lighting both of the wake up scenes were shot with only natural light. For most of the scenes inside we used regular overhead lighting. There is one point however that we were running on a race for time Because the sun was setting.
