Filming Blog - Silver City

On Wednesday October 15, I started to film with my partner. We did all filming at her house due to the hallway and LED lights she has. She also said she had a disco ball we planned to use but ended up not. I brought props such as my wig, glow sticks, glasses, beads, and a costume change. I played the futuristic music character and she played the character listening to music. I utilized my phone to play the song Light Switch by Charlie Puth while filming as we needed to stay on beat while dancing. My phone has trouble downloading music, so I ended up downloading a 3-minute Tik Tok of that song, cropping it down, and playing that while filming. My partner got her friend to help us film scenes where we both had to be in. We needed an actual person, not just a tripod because for some scenes the camera had to move at angles. After explaining to the friend how to shoot certain scenes and hold the camera, I started to direct one of the hallway scenes. For the hallway scenes we would have to make sure that 4 dogs weren’t in the shot. Three of them were Mary’s and the fourth she was dog sitting. I would make sure the music was playing before recording to keep everything on beat and say "okay" when the scene was done. I had some trouble figuring out how to angle and move the camera during the tilt scene to the movement of my arm wave dance. After some trials and discussion, we got it down. Then I directed the friend how far and high to hold the camera during the establishing shot so we could get the entire room in the shot. We wanted to get some of the ceiling to really get that establishing shot look. Meanwhile Mary was getting all her dogs that had snuck in out of the room. My partner and I then shifted to the second part of the commercial where she had to do a costume change. The costume consisted of glow stick bracelets and necklaces and colorful disco bead necklaces.
