Genre Research: Edward Scissorhands

What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie  have?

The real element that we are choosing to base our final task off is the way the couple looks together and how they act. Edward has a very intimidating, almost spooky appearance. Wearing all dark clothing made of rough textures and adorned with spikes. He also has many belts and other items strapped around him, creating his clothing. He his covered in scars and his hands were made of knifes. As for his later love interest Kim she is dressed in a very preppy style. With the usage of light pastel colors. To viewers this contrasts on screen and allows for the relationship to be even more captivating.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?

Personally I enjoyed how the romance between Kim and Edward allowed for Edward to become a more confident person. A lot of romance movies portray degrading couples but when Edward is with Kim she takes her time with him and accepts that’s he’s different from everyone around her. She learns to adapt to his differences and aids him excelling in his strengths. Doing this she allows Edward to attempt at living a normal life in her town. Edward was the more impressionable one in this movie which is a breath of fresh air compared to how the man is always over powering.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?

I was not a fan of how their relationship started. In the beginning Kim was afraid of Edward and honestly was extremely rude to him. It was an understandable character development that the writes chose to have the storyline fall that way. However Kim was extremely rude and abrasive to Edward at the beginning and I wasn’t a fan of how they started that way.
