Research the Video Star

The original music video for Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles had an obvious past vs. future concept. For the past, they used props such as an early 20th century speaker, old tapes, and an old grand piano. For the future, they used props such as a colored video tv, electronic keyboards, electronic amps, and a whole wall of recording studio technology.

The futuristic phase is brought to life by the costumes changing from plain white long sleeve shirts to silver metallic suits. Another futuristic character is also introduced during the second verse wearing a transparent, shiny body suit with pink and blue shoulder patches and fringe wig. These costume changes/conflict further develop the difference between video (future) and radio (past).

The original music video also had a lot of advanced visual media details such as animation. In the beginning the video uses animation, however rudimentary, of explosions. There is also an advanced mash of two shots where one is of the singer's face with a filter over it. The filter depicts the light and dark parts of the singer's face like an Andy Warhol painting.

In the beginning, the video used many close-up shots of characters faces with and without the filter. There is also a black background for most of the beginning before the second verse started. When the second verse starts, a brighter scene and background is shown as white and colorful backgrounds are used more than black backgrounds. The characters also wear white and silver clothes to show the brightness of the future. The background singer characters wear pink and blue colors, just like the futuristic character.

Towards the middle to end part, the video uses more animation of explosions, real explosions, and colorful imagery and costumes. The lightning also changes to pink for some shots to show the change to future. Art cutouts of box TVs are also used in the background. There are also creative shots of a tv screen of the characters singing and playing instruments. The music video ends with the characters wearing their silver, futuristic clothes and a fade out into a white screen to represent the brightness of the future.
