Filming in the Moonlight

The second day of filming happened the next day on March 12th at 6:30 p.m. We decided to do it at the same time so the sky would look the same. However due to the great buffoon, George Hudson, day light savings day messed everything up. We were unaware that this was happening so when we arrived at Mary’s house the sky looked like it did at 5:30 yesterday. It was too bright for what the scenery needed to look like, so we couldn’t start filming right away.

Elena first arrived then Mary’s friend, Kai, otherwise known as vampire hunter. While we waited for the sun to set, we figured out Kai’s outfit which consisted of them changing their shirt for a green one and using Mary’s dad’s baggy, leather jacket. We also changed into our vampire attire and put on our makeup. We also rehearsed lines, especially vampire hunter monologue and Elena’s accent. We also had to find a good-looking gold ring. When the sun was a little bit lower, we started to film some close-up shots where you didn’t see the sky. We thought for editing we could easily lower the brightness so it would match the rest of the darker shots. After some of the closeups we moved on to the other shots. During shot 18, where we see Aurelia in the horizon with vampire hunter's legs on either side, is where we had some difficulty. It took some time to position Mary and Kai properly and get Kai to walk where you could see her. Kai also had to talk extra loud as Elena had the camera down and opposite to Kai’s direction of speech. Overall, we had a problem with talking volume because of the wind and Mary’s naturally quiet voice.

We then did the wide shot where Elena had to walk backwards while Mary speed-walked forward. Finally, when the sun had gone down could we film the majority of the dialogue scenes between Aurelia, Mara and Vampire hunter. For the second to last shot we got Mary’s dad to film the pan up as all of us had to be in it. We applied the fake blood, which you couldn’t end up seeing, did the last bit of filming, and we were done.
